CATLOC supports all the different activites accommodated in the LCC methodology. The main applications of CATLOC are:

• comparison of competing contractors
• comparison of system design alternatives
• comparison of alternative logistics and support concepts
• identification of cost drivers
• long term planning and budgeting
• decisions about replacement of ageing equipment
• cost monitoring of active programmes

CATLOC can be used in any phase of a product’s life:

• in early concept studies to assess alternative system designs and to outline logistics and support strategies.
• in acquisition projects to select among competing proposals
• in development projects to model the impact of system design on maintenance and support costs
• in active programmes to identify cost drivers and to control cost flows

Although CATLOC is primarily a tool for LCC analysis, it can also be used in areas such as logistics support analysis and systems engineering.
